Gran Canaria - the island of pensioners

Gran Canaria, the second largest island of the Canaries is wellknown due to its spectacular mountains and worth a trip. Wild romantic Barankos, like the great american model, the Grand Canyon, form the island. Famous cowboy films are made on Gran Canaria.

Roque Nublo - The Rock in Clouds

The walking-tour onto the high plateau of Roque Nublo is one of the most beautiful hikes on Gran Canaria. The 80 m high, bizarre rock monolith is classified as relict of a volcanic vent.
From the steep rock edge behind the rock monolith we look into the gaping depth towards Tejeda and the mountain Roque Bentayga.

The wild Cumbre

Starting at Maspalomas we drive through the Barranco Fataga up to the view point and openair museum Mundo Aborigen. Afterwards we reach Fataga, one of the most pitoresque villages of the southern Cumbre. In a palmtree valley, at the end of the village Fataga you can find the Hotel Molina del Agua, former Finca Cercado. In the near you can take a dromedary ride, a practical joke for children and adult persons together. Upon San Bartolomé de Tirajana we go ahead to Ayacata (almond tree flower in february) and up to a small parking area on foot of Roque Nublo. There starts the 1 hour walking-tour to Roque Nublo, the bizarre rock monolith (elevation 1813 m), the emblem of Gran Canarias. Next stop is the Pico de las Nieves (1949 m), the "snowpic" and the highest mountain of Gran Canaria. Often the Passat clouds reach an elevation of 1700 m and only the top of Roque Nublo looks out of the cloud cover. In the background sticks out Tenerifa's mighty Teide (3718 m) from the ocean.
Weiter geht's über das Cruz de Tejeda to Tejeda. Schnow white houses, pitoresque narrow streets, a nice church and a panorama view to Artenara and the Roque Bentayga. A worthwhile side trip leads us to Roque Bentayga, a giant Basaltmonolith with cave houses and sacrificial altars. Along Ayacata we continue the tour passing big water reservoirs downto Mogán.
Puerto de Mogán is a artificial build Tourist center in Andalusian-, Dutch architectural style - ideal for "Europe park Rust" lovers.
