New Zealand, the Land of the long white cloud
Tongariro National Park
Tongariro Crossing: The 7 hour hike (17 km) starts at Mangatepopo parking lot. Over Red Crater (the highest point of the hike at 1886m), we pass the Emerald Lakes and Blue Lake to Ketetahi.
From the Ketetahi parking lot the shuttle brings us back to the starting point.
The recorded GPS track of the volcano hike helps you to orient yourself during the Tongariro Crossing.
The three volcanoes in the middle of the Tongariro National Park are Mt. Tongariro, Ngaruahoe and Ruapehu. The volcanic activities started about 2 million years ago and continue until today. Ruapehu and Ngauruhoe are among the most active volcanoes in the world. Tongariro National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Tongariro National Park is New Zealand's oldest National Park.
