Herzogstand (1731 m), Heimgarten ridge hike
In only 4 minutes the Herzogstand cable car hovers from Walchensee up to the Herzogstand. The Berggasthaus is the starting point for the hike to the Martinskopf (1674 m), then on a serpentine path up to the Herzogstand viewing pavilion (1731 m) on the summit.
At the Herzogstand summit, the via ferrata to Heimgarten begins. The Heimgarten fixed rope route is one of the 100 most beautiful ridge hikes in the Alps. Despite securing the rope in many places, the Heimgarten tightrope walk requires good footwear and a certain degree of sure-footedness and a head for heights. The view from the Heimgarten ridge down to the lake landscape of Kochelsee and Walchensee is breathtaking. Well visible is the famous Walchensee hydroelectric power station. Approximately in the middle of the ridge path you get to the Schlehdorfer cross. Then we continue in serpentines to the summit cross of Heimgarten (1790 m). Not far from the summit cross is the Heimgarten hut, which is managed in summer season. My recorded GPS track shows the very nice hike. |
