The Zugspitze (altitude 2962 m) highest mountain in Germany

At the Eibsee we board the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn coming from Grainau. The nostalgic cog railway has been running up to the Zugspitzplatt since 1930. After the Riffelriss station, the tunnel begins on the northern flank of the Zugspitze massif. From the Zugspitzplatt we float further up to the golden Zugspitz summit cross with a modern cable car. The panoramic view of the golden Zugspitz summit cross, Albspitze, Jubilee Ridge a dangerous via ferrata and deep down to the Eibsee is breathtaking. We end the fantastic day tour with the cable car down to the Eibsee.

The ice-cold water of the Eibsee shines fascinatingly in all shades of blue and turquoise. A canoe or paddle boat trip is highly recommended. The reflection of the Karwendel mountains with the Zugspitze in the Eibsee reminds me of the Mirror Lake on the South Island of New Zealand.
