Stephansdom in Vienna

Stephan's Cathedral (or St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna) on Stephansplatz in the 1st district of Vienna citycenter has been a cathedral since 1365 (seat of a cathedral chapter), since 1469/1479 cathedral (episcopal see) and since 1723 Metropolitan Church of the Archbishop of Vienna. The Roman Catholic cathedral, known in Viennese vernacular "Steffl", is considered to be Vienna's landmark. The namesake is St. Stephen, who is the first Christian martyr.
The south tower is 136 m high. You reach the Türmerstube via 343 steps. The South Tower is an architectural masterpiece of its time - despite its remarkable height, the foundation is less than 4 meters deep. He is completely free and is not bound to the nave. In the south tower there are a total of 13 bells, of which 11 are the main ring of St. Stephan's Cathedral. The famous Pummerin, the third largest church bell in Europe, is located in the north tower under a tower dome from the Renaissance period.
