Bavarian Carnival sledge race in Gaissach

The famous Schnabler and sledge race in the upper Bavarian Gaissach takes place every year during the carnival season, depending on snow conditions usually in late January or early February. The Gaißacher sledge race promises daredevil risky jumps of the young peasant boys and brave girls and is a super Gaudi (fun). The widest jump of a Schnabler sledge on the nature jump hill was measured to 25 m. With the solid horn sledges also called Schnabler were once brought wood and hay to the villages in the valleys in winter. Nevertheless, some sledges break due to the hard landing. The Upper Bavarian village Gaißach is located in the Isarwinkel region (about 40 km from Munich) between Bad Toelz and Lenggries in the Alpine foothills.
