Whiteblue, Bavaria, Maypole Festival
The bavarian Maypole Festivals take place on 1th of May with Dance into the May and are celebrated with Blasmusic, Dirndl, leather trousers and bavarian beer. The maypole festivals have a long tradition in Bavaria and are celebrated in all villages. A famous maypole stands on the Viktualienmarket in Munich.
The wooden maypole gets painted in the Bavarian colours white and blue and is decorated usually with emblems depicting local crafts and industry. In Germany and Austria the maypole or in german language "Maibaum" is a tradition going back to the 16th century. There are two traditional types of maypole dancing: the circle dance and the ribbon dance. Dancers, girls and boys dressed in leather trousers and Dirndl gather in a circle, each holding a coloured ribbon attached to a pole in the middle. |
