Atomium - Landmark of Brussels
The Atomium was built for the Expo world exhibition 1958. The 102 m high building consists of 9 atomic balls, which represent the crystal structure of the iron atom. The Atomium was designed as a symbol of the atomic age and the peaceful use of nuclear energy by engineer André Waterkeyn and built by architects André and Jean Polak. The Atom balls with a diameter of 18 m and the connecting bars are accessible via escalators.
The sightseeing tour begins in the top sphere. There is a restaurant and a viewing platform with a great view. |
