Oahu - Southern Tour (95 km from Waikiki):

Maui - Road to Hana (Highway 360) (230 km from Kihei):

• Lower Paia
• Hoopika Park, Windsurf Paradies, Monster waves
  on the promontory we have very good observation and photo opportunities of the death-defying surfers in the by the strong wind whipped up sea.

• 75 km (Highway 360), 617 curves and 56 bridges are located between Paia and Hana, at the most beautiful places there are small parking lots or holding options on the roadside.
  As through a green tunnel the road passes deeper and deeper into the tropical rain forest and wild jungle.

  Thunderous surf, bizarre lava cliffs,
  am Black Sand Beach stehen so ziemlich alle Warnschilder, die es an Hawaii's Stränden gibt, baden ist hier sehr gefährlich. Auf den Lavaklippen befindet sich ein schöner Campingplatz. Die tosende Brandung bildet hohe Wasserfontänen.
  Vorsicht mit Fotoaparaten und Kameras, nicht zuweit vorwagen, plötzlich ist alles naß:-((
• Oheo Gulch
  Wanderung zu den berühmten Seven Sacred Pools, stufenförmig zum Meer abfallende Teiche ermöglichen zur Abwechslung mal das Baden in Süßwasser
• Makahiku- and Waimoku Falls
  Pipiwai Trail (ca 3 km, 270 m Höhendifferenz) zu den 60 und 120 m hohen Wasserfällen

• Southern route (Highway 31,37 driving time circa 2 1/2 hours)
  wildromantische, wüstenartig trockene, fast menschenleere Südküste
  kurzes ungeteertes Strassenstück, bei vorsichtiger Fahrweise auch ohne 4WD möglich,
  Achtung: Umweg über Kahului notwendig, da keine direkte Verbindung nach Wailea oder Kihei :-((

Maui - Haleakala Crater (180 km from Kihei):

• Haleakala Crater (3055 m)
  sunrise departure in Kihei at 3 o'clock in the morning, danger of fog at the summit and the crater
  (the made4you Team needed 3 attempts before the weather conditions once were nice :o))
• Downhill
  driving with specially designed bicycles 60 km (starting from 3,000 meters elevation) down to the sea, is a unique pleasure.
  We start at the Haleakala summit. A scout is driving ahead, so that the rapid Sause is relatively safe :o))

Big Island - Volcanoes National Park (180 km from Hilo):

• Wanderung am Kilauea Iki oder Halemaumau Crater,

• alternativ Highway 11, ab Keaau Highway 130 bis Strassenende
• Wanderung durch die Lava in Richtung Meer,
  eine starke Taschenlampe erleichtert die Orientierung falls der Rückweg im Dunkeln erfolgen muß, Proviant und gutes Schuhwerk sind unerläßlich :o))
• Bei Pahoa Abstecher zum Lava Tree State Monument
• Auf der Rückfahrt Besuch der Macadamia Nut Factory

Big Island - Waimea (190 km ab Kailua Kona):

• Baden in der Hapuna Bay
  Besichtigung Hilton Waikoloa Resort Hotel (Super Delphinshow mit derzeit 11 Delphinen)
  Rundfahrt mit dem Boot durch das weitläufige, disneylandartig angelegte Hotelgelände auf einem Kanal
• Hubschrauberrundflug
  direkt am Highway ist mitten in der Lava ein Hubschrauberlandeplatz der renomierten Gesellschaft Blue Hawaiian angelegt (Ein Rundflug ist hier leider wesentlich teurer als von Hilo aus)
• Waimea
  • Parker Ranch, Rodeo's finden mehrmals im Jahr statt (sehr ursprünglich, keine Touristenshow sondern echtes Kräftemessen zwischen Cowboy und Tier. Übrigens, an den Wettbewerben nehmen auch Cowgirls teil :o)),
    gute Steaks
  • saftige Wiesen, Rinderherden, Pferdekoppeln
    (erinnert stark an unser Alpenvorland)
• Waipio Valley, das Tal der Könige
  vom Aussichtspunkt (am Parkplatz) führt ein schmales Sträßchen steil hinunter zum Strand (nur mit 4WD befahrbar)

Big Island - Mauna Kea (4205 m) (220 km from Kailua Kona, 150 km from Hilo):

• Saddle Road
  die Saddle Road kann mit dem Leihwagen problemlos befahren werden, auch wenn die Autovermieter dies nicht wollen. Hier rollen sogar Tanklastzüge.
  Farnwälder links und rechts der Strasse, Durchfahren aller Vegetationszonen,
  Straße führt durch gigantische Lavafelder, Abzweigung zum Mauna Kea Gipfel
• Mauna Kea Gipfel (4205 m), gigantische Teleskope zur Weltraumbeobachtung
  höchster Berg der Erde (mehr als 10000 m hoch, davon sind ca 6000 m unter Wasser)
• Astronomy Visitor Center (2700 m), abendliche Sternbeobachtung
